Unlike the islands in the Caribbean that were formed from ancient volcanic mountain chains, the Bahamas perch on two banks that rise from the depths of the Atlantic Ocean. The Bahamas are sprawling and shallow, dotted with small and large islands and cays fringed in coral reefs and abundant with sea life.
The Bahamas is nestled to the east of Florida and north of Cuba. Bikini Adventures is based in the near southern tip of the of the Exuma chain, where over 360 islands or cays make up this beautiful paradise. The largest of these cays is Great Exuma, where John and Nancy will greet you and whisk you away on your week long island adventure.
Gentle trade winds, stress-free sailing, afternoon naps on the hammock, incredible snorkeling, miles of secluded beaches, and wonderful dining are just a few of the things that will be included on this unforgettable holiday.
Once you arrive at the Exuma International Airport it will be a 10 mile taxi ride to the Dinghy Dock in Georgetown, where John and Nancy will be waiting for you and your one week adventure in paradise begins!
There are a couple of ways to travel to Georgetown. One option is a non-stop Air Canada flight offered only on Sunday, direct to Georgetown International Airport. The second option is a direct flight to Nassau with Westjet or any other major airline. From there take a short flight on Bahamasair
(800/222-4262 and www.bahamasair.com) to Georgetown, Exuma.
Your holiday will be whatever you want it to be. You can be as relaxed or as active as you please. Once settled on Bikini you will enjoy all the activities that Stocking Island has to offer. The first few days you will experience a little of everything. From yoga on the beach, to stunning cliffs and beachside strolls. The beach on Stocking Island is one of the most beautiful beaches we have ever experienced in our travels. Enjoy a game of beach volleyball and then sip on a cold Bahamian brew at our favourite little beach bar the Chat ‘n Chill. Delight in the best conch salad you have ever tasted, made in front of your eyes while you watch the conch being collected out of the water. Afterwards feed the friendly stingrays that have become local celebrities as they dine on the leftovers!
Beach dances and bonfires are a regular occurrence on Stocking Island!
When you are ready we set sail to Long Island (P.S. not NY Long Island)! Long Island is a lovely afternoon sail from Georgetown. On the crossing we will be fishing for Mahi-mahi, Wahoo and Tuna. John will guide you from catching to cleaning, and Nancy will prepare your catch for a delicious dinner. Cape Santa Maria has been voted one of the top beaches in the world and that is where we will moor for the next few days. This was one of the first stops made by Christopher Columbus and the Tropic of Cancer runs through the northern quarter of this beautiful Island.
Long Island is famous for its caves, which have played a major role in the history of the island. The world’s deepest underwater sink hole, Dean’s Blue Hole, drops to a depth of 200 meters, making it more than double the depth of most other large holes. Two of the world records in free diving were achieved in this particular spot. It is a wonderful place to snorkel and explore. Long Island is a great place to get the island feel and we will rent a car for the day and show you all the amazing sites the island has to offer. In the evening you will dine at the beautiful Cape Santa Maria Resort where you will enjoy the only evening off the boat.
After a couple of fun filled days exploring Long Island and the beautiful water surrounding, we will set sail back to Georgetown.
